Whiffle Ball Playlist

I had my second whiffle ball game today, and while we ended up losing 9-6, we played a lot better. I'm feeling optimistic about it. Anyways, as I was driving home, my ipod was on shuffle and I was treated to an awesome playlist:

Snapcase - Covered
Saves the Day - Just Walk Him Out There and Shoot Him
Alkaline Trio - Fine Without You
The Jazz June - Silver Dollar
Clipse - Grindin'
Stevie Wonder - For Once in My Life
Alkaline Trio - Help Me
Saves the Day - Sell My Old Clothes, I'm Off to Heaven
Kid Kilowatt - Red Carpet
NOFX - Don't Call Me White
The Aeffect - Multiplies

Fifa 09

I was completely disappointed with the U.S. men's national team draw with El Salvador tonight. They were lucky to even get the point, and Bob Bradley really needs to change his tactics and personnel on the field. Anyways, in my disappointment, I decided to put together an awesome team in Fifa 09 and I'm going to try to have an undefeated season at the hardest difficulty. I play a 3-5-2 with 2 deep laying holding midfielders. Here's the line-up:

Benzema---------Torres

David Silva--------Gerrard----------Messi

Mascherano---------Obi Mikel

Carragher-------Skrtel---------Agger

Adler

My bench is: Fiorillo (gk), Arbeloa (d), Insua (d), Lucas (m), Plessis (m), Walcott (m), Diego Capel (m), Walter (st), Al-Thynniyan (st)

Death of an ipod

I thought my ipod died on me today. It just turned off even though it was charged. I cried a little bit, then I yelled a little bit, and then I finally just reset it and all was good. It got me thinking though, why should I care if my ipod died? I hate music, and here are my top 10 most hated bands:

Weezer - They are my most hated band in the world. I seriously fucking hate them and anyone that has been around me while I have had a few beers in me and Weezer has come on has heard why I hate them so much. How could a band put out two amazing records, and then become complete horseshit? It makes no sense to me, and my disappointment in them has turned into pure hatred. Rivers Coumo, go fuck yourself.

U2 - I dig some of the older some of their older shit. With or Without You. One. Then in the late 90's, these smug assholes started to just turn out lame shit after lame shit. Not only do we have to listen to their lame shit on the radio every 5 minutes, but we also have to listen to people talking about how they are the greatest band in the world. Bono is a motherfucker, and no one gives a fuck about what the hell he ever says. Yeah, it's a beautiful day. We got it.

The Jonas Brothers - I don't hate them because they are pre-packaged, Disney robots. I hate them because they are probably banging the hottest gash around but they pull this religious clean-cut image. Share the wealth dudes!!!!

Ted Leo - Ok, maybe I don't really hate him. In fact, I really like his music. Yet I figured I need to keep up our on-going feud stemming from my old webzine, sayRAH.net. Your move, prick.

Metallica - This band is 100% white trash. Plus they hate their own fans who download their music.

Asher Roth - Is this motherfucker for real? Seriously, this shit isn't for real.

more bands that I hate to be continued....

Imagine your dick is a bus

even a small bus is pretty big.

Gary Busey. Seriously. I never thought I'd say I liked watching the Roast of Larry the Cable Guy but I watched it cause I saw Busey was going to be on it. He did not disappoint... He went up to the podium and then pointed to where he was sitting and was like, "what the hell is Gary Busey doing here..." and then spent 10 minutes talking to himself. and everyone else was super racist at Warren Sapp, which is always funny. In conclusion, I love the celebrity roasts. Especially the one of Pamela Anderson, cause her shirt was see thru the entire night and she had no idea and wasn't wearing a bra.

Cheif Kickingstallionsims

I just finished Dance Dance by Haruki Murakami. I really like his novels, but they are kind of all the same: Holdern Caulfield-like male character not happy with his life, has feelings for some girl. He may or may not date the girl. Someone dies/ disappears mysteriously. A teenage girl appears in his life, he sees something tragic about her... blah blah blah.
Don't get me wrong, totally entertaining, just formulated. like Palahniuk.

Positive of the day = I went to a barber shop to get my beard trimmed, it was pretty old school and awesome. when they put the hot foam on my neck I felt like I was gonna get whacked.

Negative of the day = I did my bracket on paper, then I was going to fill out my yahoo bracket on my break from work, but they fucking blocked fantasy sports on our internet. this doesnt make sense because the internet is only available during break times, so like, its not like it will distract us from work. I was pissed.

I have an interview for a new job tomorrow. I am pretty hopeful.

I Hate My Life

I just watched Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. It was such a waste of my time. I hate my life because I just watched it.

I do love my life though cause that My Chemical Romance song from the soundtrack to The Watchmen just came on mtv two straight times. I don't think I have ever seen that before. I think I need to get a job as a MTV programmer so that shit never happens again.

2:37am

I'm really not looking forward to going into work at 5 this morning. I would much rather just listen to music right now. Here are my some bands that I just want to curl up on my couch and daydream to right now:

Elliott
Battles
Alkaline Trio
Frodus

The Lazarus Project

I just finished reading "The Lazarus Project" by Aleksandar Hemon. I was really drawn into this novel, which is the story of a Bosnian immigrant in Chicago researching the 1908 killing of Lazarus Averbuch by the Chicago chief of police. Hemon jumps from trying to get the facts straight of this historical event, which still remains shady to the day, to the story of the Bosnian writer going back to Europe to research Averbuch's life. There, he instead struggles with his own identity as a Bosnian immigrant in the United States. While the story does not always smoothly jump from one to another, both stories held their own in keeping me intrigued. In fact, I read this in two sittings. I started it while not being able to sleep while I was visiting my friend Cameron. I was afraid that if I fell asleep on his couch, his weird roommate might have tried to snuggle with me. Then I finished it while my airplane was sitting on the runway for an hour waiting for takeoff. Then I was shit out of luck for the rest of the plane ride.

Stuck

I'm stuck. In Chicago. My flight has been canceled. Hopefully I can get on another one tonight, but I hear tons of flights into New York are getting canceled. I'm not happy with this.

Wednesday, March 4, 2009

I just applied for a different job because my job salary is pathetic and they instituted a salary freeze right before I was owed a raise.

I asked for $30,000 a year, for a Merchandising Specialist. I hope this is not unreasonable.
If I get this job, I am gonna be ballin'

Really?

Did Jon just actually post? I'm into it. Let's see more out of him.

I literally just finished reading The Watchmen. I'm not a cyberweb nerd like any of you kids, but I absolutely loved it. Loved it! Hopefully the movie doesn't disappoint.

I'll be in Chicago for the next week, so I'll probably be too drunk to even get on a computer. In the meantime, I love Alkaline Trio:

Choking on the thought of leaving
Drinking to keep from sobbing
Four PM, four dollar pints
At SFO, the time and price

With all my happiness aborted
The PA painfully starts boarding
I sink deep thirty thousand feet
Into my window seat... electric chair

And I was drinking you goodbye
My heart floats in the bay
From sour home Chicago
I hear it beating far away
There's no telling what I'll do
If I don't return to you

Hopeful thoughts of soon returning
Can't put out my stomach burning
Plastic wings and plastic smiles
And salted peanuts to stretch my mile

Choking on the thought of leaving
Drinking to keep from heaving
Five PM, five dollar pints
Hellbound Airlines, time and price

And I was drinking you goodbye
My heart floats in the bay
From sour home Chicago
I hear it beating far away
There's no telling what I'll do
If I don't return to you

I was drinking you goodbye
My heart floats in the bay
From sour home Chicago
I hear it beating far away
There's no telling what I'll do
If I don't return to you

Just like the Prodigal Son, I've returned

someone steppin' to me, ya get burned.

Since this blog has gotten more serious, I decided I needed to post some stuff.
I will start off with books.
Background: I am allowed to listen to my iPod at work all day. I work 8 hours a day and have been at the place for 7 months so I have had to start trying to find different things to listen to other than the misfits boxset all day (which I do rock on my iPod from start to finish at least once a week pretty much). So I started listening to podcasts. And after tuesday of each week I started running out of those (as they are usually updated once a week, some more... some less). Then I noticed that audible.com started advertising that they give you a free audiobook with a free one month trial of their website.

So I signed up and downloaded Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. Awesome. I am a huge fan of Gladwell after reading the Tipping Point, and subsequently Blink. Nonfiction can be a difficult read, but he makes it interesting to read by skipping around and not getting too verbose on each aspect of his topic. Outliers is about what makes successful people so, well, successful. Instead of being statistical outliers in IQ or ability, it instead chooses to argue that their prowess more had to do with good timing. For example, it says great hockey players are born in the beginning of the year because that is the cutoff for the age groups in Candian Youth Hockey Leagues is January 1st, so therefore the kids born in the beginning of the year are older and bigger when they start playing at young ages where 6 months means a lot physically. Or about how Bill Gates is so successful because his junior high was one of the lucky few schools to have access to a mainframe computer while most every other kid would never have seen one until college. This book is pretty positive, it makes you feel like you still have a chance to be awesome even if you are living at home in your mom's (or grandma's) basement.

Then I got Lush Life by Richard Price. Devin wrote about this so I am just going to say I liked it. Today I was listening to the Fresh Air podcast (from 2/27) by NPR and I learned that Richard Price wrote a book called Clockers that later became inspiration for the HBO show The Wire. He subsequently wrote for the The Wire and this makes a lot of sense because I remember listening to Lush Life and thinking about how the descriptions of young project kids and cops was very reminiscent of the show. Even one of the detectives in the story is almost the same character as Det. McNulty on The Wire.

Alright, I am bored. I will talk about some other books later.
