Polar Bear Club

So I keep talking about this band, Polar Bear Club. They are really, really good. Go buy the album.

Yet you can also give it a listen here:

Polar Bear Club - Sometimes Things Just Disappear

Crazy Train...

3:36 -
I'm on the Amtrak train going from Rochester, New York to Yonkers. I've already been on here for about an hour, and I have listened to Alkaline Trio the entire way. I just text messaged my friend Allison, “Should I listen to Alkaline Trio the entire 6 and a half train ride?” Her response, obviously, was “Hell yeah!” Me, being my witty self, then responded “Hell yes, I do have time to waste.” Man, I do love myself some Alkaline Trio. As I type this we are pulling into the Syracuse station. I don't know why, but I never realized how close Syracuse was to Rochester. I guess it makes sense now that my father has become a full-fledged Syracuse basketball fan. We watched the game yesterday afternoon against Louisville, which Louisville came out on top. I need to pick a Big East team to follow. I like Louisville, Georgetown, Syracuse, and Villanova. My allegiance is for sale.

3:44 -
I'm so fucked. A woman and her baby are sitting directly behind me and the baby is starting to cry. I would hate to be a baby on a train, or the mom that has to deal with the baby, so I feel for them. Fuck though, I hope it doesn't continue the entire ride. In the meantime, here is an update on what I did this weekend in Rochester:

1) Listened to my mom yell at me about nothing/everything.
2) Went to go see Polar Bear Club at the Bug Jar. Good venue, although very small. I really enjoyed being at a small place. It was nice and brought me back to my high school years of checking out emo and/or hardcore bands. And this show had both. First band was called Claire Danes, and they sounded like “Four Minute Mile”-era Get Up Kids. Next band was called something like Fracture or Failure or something with an F that I don't quite remember. Typical tough guy hardcore, but it was cool to see how all the kids freaked out for them. They love the mosh. The next band I missed out on, as I was at the bar talking to my friend Chad, who is like my dad's “protege” at work. Really cool guy. Then Polar Bear Club came on and didn't disappoint. It's funny how they can sound so much like Small Brown Bike, but be even more poppy and more hardcore at the same time. I'm into it. Very solid, and all the kids were going apeshit for them. Good times all around.

8:06 -
So the baby was actual good about crying and I was able to get some sleep. I also listened to some good music, ranging from The Get Up Kids to Spank Rock to The Smiths and even Sinead O'Conner. Now as I try to type this, the train is shaky as shit and it's a hassle to even get a word down.
I'm going to go get a drink in the food car.

Poison Ivy 4

Yeah, I watched it. It was obviously horrible/awesome. The blond chick from Degrassi is in it, and yes, she is naked.

More importantly though, Icebox was in it, and she was basically naked throughout the entire movie!!!!

If only this kid was in it too:

White Trash, 1997

This dude comes into my work today. He's the boyfriend of another coworker, and he happens to work at a different location. For some reason, he starts to help out with some stocking, and he was talking to me. I didn't understand a single goddamn thing he was saying. Why? Cause he was....

WHITE TRASH, CIRCA 1997!!!!!!!!

I want to work in an office

I just finished reading Personal Days: A Novel by Ed Park. I really enjoyed how this book was written and all the idiosyncrasies of each character and as a group. Set in an unnamed office, it explores the group dynamic of coworkers as they are in the middle of a company wide restructuring.

Basically, it made me want to sit in a cubicle and be able to send crazy emails to my coworkers throughout the day.

Molson Golden...

is good. My question tonight is "would you prefer..."

to constantly be itchy

or

constantly be hungry?

UPDATE:

next beer:

"would you prefer..."

to have a blind monkey

or

a parrot that swears for a sidekick?

Top 10 Albums of 2008

I'm a week late on this one. In fact, I'm not even going to post my list. Instead, here are just a few albums I bothered to even listen to in the past year. Some were awesome, some were just ok. Others, like Vampire Weekend, were entirely fucking stupid, although my mom liked it.

Genghis Tron - Board up the House (very awesome, also the remix albums were great too)

Akimbo - Navigating the Bronze (thanks to Jesse Raub for introducing me to them a few years ago)

Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago (this shit put me to sleep. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing)

Bonnie "Prince" Billy - Lie Down in the Light (see above description, but this time it was most definitely a good thing)

Flying Lotus - Los Angeles (this shit was kind of awesome)

Fucked Up - The Chemistry of Common Life (this shit was very awesome)

United Nations (I was stoked for this to come out, and was not disappointed)

Torche - Meanderthal (listening to this makes me feel like a bad-ass)

Thursday/Envy split (I can't wait for this new Thursday album)

These Arms Are Snakes - Tail Swallower and Dove

The Hold Steady - Stay Positive (I don't know why kids like the Gaslight Anthem when we got the Hold Steady)

I was also digging new albums by Q-Tip, Lil Wayne, Portishead, TV on the Radio, the Mae Shi, M83, and that weird shit that Thrice put out.

Goddamn Early Mornings

Things I have done already today, and it's only 4:25am:

Drank some beers.
Listened to the Rolling Stones.
Ate some oatmeal.
Re-read some Charles Bukowski.
Downloaded that latest Annuals album.

It's been a good day so far, but now I have to go to work. I'm not too happy about that. These 5am shifts are really getting to me.
